About this tour
Then you head for the north and east slopes, through villages such as Castiglione di Sicilia, Randazzo, Linguaglossa and Milo, where the vines climb in terraces between dry walls of lava stone. This is the Etna DOC area, created in 1968, the first in Sicily: the reds are at least 80 per cent Nerello Mascalese, the whites at least 60 per cent Carricante. The tasting is at a winery you choose or one we suggest: we book it on request and you pay at the winery.
Your driver drives, waits for you and suggests where to stop for lunch or shopping. At the winery, the people who make the wine tell its story.

Good to know
- Wineries usually receive visitors by appointment: tell us when you book if you already have one in mind, otherwise we suggest one. The winery sets the price of the tasting.
- On the south side the road ends at the Rifugio Sapienza square, at about 1,900 m, the base of the cable car; the refuge building itself is currently closed. From the square you visit the Silvestri craters on foot, on your own, along the marked paths.
- Entry about 5 euro per person, every day 8:30-17:00 (Etna cable car website, October 2026), paid on site.
- Above about 2,500 m access depends on the volcanic alert phase: the summit craters only with authorised alpine or volcanological guides, when the phase allows. Under notice no. 2 of 12 October 2026 the phase is pre-alarm and the summit-crater zone is closed.
- Your driver does not go above the square, and nobody can promise the summit, lava or a visible eruption.
- Your driver drives, waits for you and suggests stops and timings, but does not guide inside sites and monuments.
- Entrance tickets, the cable car and tastings are not part of the tour price: you pay for them yourself, on site or online.
- Pickup at your hotel or address at the time you choose: in historic centres the car comes to your hotel where traffic rules allow, otherwise to the nearest point, agreed beforehand.
- Private tour: the car and driver are for your group only, up to 8 people. The price is per group, not per person.

Frequently asked questions
Is the tasting included?
No. We book it on request, but you pay at the winery, at the price the winery sets.
Can we visit two wineries?
Yes, if the timings allow: tell us when you book, so we fix the times within the 7 hours.
Do we take the cable car?
Usually not: on this tour the stop on Etna is short. If you want the cable car, choose the Etna half-day tour or Etna and Taormina.
